You may cross paths with people on the other side of the hiring table again.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Graciously thank the hiring coordinator for\u00a0 whatever experiences you've had up to that\u00a0 point with their institution, even if you didn't have the best experience<\/strong>. Remember that being invited indicates that an employer is interested in your candidacy, and not some elaborate conspiracy designed to confound \u00a0or destroy your career aspirations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wish them well with their search.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Be tactful about your reasons for dropping\u00a0 out<\/strong> (tell them you got another offer, that you didn't feel the institution \u00a0as a good fit for your current needs, or that you need more time to consider\u00a0 options.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 14.2px 0.0px; font: 32.0px Arial; color: #ffffff} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 14.2px 0.0px; font: 32.0px 'Arial Unicode MS'; color: #ffffff} span.s1 {font: 32.0px 'Arial Unicode MS'} span.s2 {font: 32.0px Arial} --><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #4a80a0;\">How Not to Drop Out of a Search Process<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ceasing all communication with an institution\u00a0 after they have contacted you<\/strong> to either gauge your further interest or to make you an offer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Not returning calls or e-mails asking for an\u00a0 update on your status<\/strong> (It's rude, and may delay the employer's opportunity to move forward on offering to other candidates.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Not filling out required forms (application,\u00a0 background check). <\/strong>You will be disqualified\u00a0 from further consideration, and it could result\u00a0 in a contingent offer being rescinded.<\/li>\n<li><strong>By starting arguments with the hiring\u00a0 coordinator about salary, benefits, \u00a0or reimbursement (There are hiring ranges and\u00a0 standard benefits at most institutions.) <\/strong>The world does not\u00a0 operate around what you think you \u201cdeserve.\u201d All conversations about these items needs to be approached from the employer's perspective.<\/li>\n<li><strong>With commentary about their department or\u00a0 programs not meeting some \u00a0standards you\u00a0 had going in. <\/strong>(This will come across as arrogant.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Any other way than thanking them for their\u00a0 time and wishing them luck with their search.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #4a80a0;\">What do you think? <\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #4a80a0;\">Are there other tips and advice you would offer job seekers about the etiquette related to dropping out of a process?<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #4a80a0;\">Do you have any real-life experiences you'd be willing to share with readers?
